Australian Army Captains push their limits
Motivated to raise money for Legacy, a cause close to their hearts, Army Captains Monika and Wes decided to embark into unchartered territory – an unsupported hike through the Australian Alps.
“No one had ever done it unsupported before,” says Monika. “We wanted to set a new record and raise money for Legacy, which will contribute to families that need it.”
As a first-time fundraiser, Monika was delighted to discover how smooth and easy the process was – from setting up their fundraising page to collecting donations.
“The team from Legacy were so helpful.”
Determined and resilient, Monika and Wes faced many challenges on the hike – some even more difficult than their rigorous army training. The couple walked an impressive 15 - 18 hours each day for a total of 20 days. When times got tough, they remembered why they were pushing themselves to their limits.
“Parts of the trip were really difficult. However, when we had phone reception and saw messages of support and more donations, it really motivated us."
With the assistance of the Legacy team, who helped the duo share their journey on social media, Monika and Wes raised an incredible $7,000 to support veterans' families. “The highlight was how many people got behind the fundraiser,” says Monika. “The amount of support and donations was amazing.”

About Legacy
For over 100 years, we've been there for the widow/ers and children whose loved ones have served in the armed forces. In times of grief, hardship or need, we provide essential social, financial and developmental assistance that families rely on each day.
