Honour their service by supporting families like Rebecca's
The impact of military service reaches far beyond the courageous soldiers on the frontline. Her then husband Andrew’s return from Afghanistan in 2012 was marked by the lasting effects of PTSD, reshaping their family’s life.
“I was young and naive when it came to understanding the war... I had never heard the words post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which became an acronym I nearly used daily.”
Rebecca’s story exemplifies the profound challenges faced by families of veterans. A single mother to three boys—Jordan (14), Mason (10), and Henry (4)—Rebecca balances raising her children, working at a local school, and pursuing a university degree in primary education.
Legacy stepped in when Rebecca needed it most, providing financial assistance for school uniforms, childcare fees, and extracurricular activities, giving her children opportunities to grow and thrive. Today, Rebecca is pursuing a degree in primary school education. Legacy has assisted her with grants for university and a laptop for her studies.
“Because of Legacy, I’ve been able to attend university with a little less stress, knowing that someone believes in me and is invested in my success.”

Legacy supports families when their loved one is lost or returns from service injured or unwell.

Legacy never forgets the family behind our ANZAC heroes
Legacy is a volunteer-driven charity. The Legacy community wraps itself around a veteran’s family to give them the support and compassion they need. Many Legacy volunteers come from military families, so we understand the effects a life of service can have.
It’s no replacement for a loved one, but Legacy acts as both a village and an extended family. Legacy is a life-long support group for military families.
Legacy is a charity that exists to care for military families
Legacy started as a promise from one digger to another on the battlefield. "Don't worry mate, I'll take care of your family."
100 years later, Legacy still exists to care for and support the military families of our returned ANZAC soldiers.
At Legacy, we know that family is the most important thing.
