Peter served aboard HMAS Newcastle before developing a brain tumour linked to his service in the Royal Australian Navy. He passed away in 2007. His son, Will, was four years old. His daughter, Ella, was only seven months old.
One of Peter's final wishes was that his wife, Rebecca, contact Legacy. She did — and the very next day, a Legacy volunteer was on her doorstep.
Legacy's priority was helping Rebecca through an incredibly difficult time. As Will and Ella grew, so did the support they received: help staying connected at school, and Legacy youth camps where they built friendships with other children who understood their experience.
Will still remembers what those camps meant to him.
Today, Will (23) and Ella (19) are capable, confident young adults — and both have become Legacy Youth Leaders, mentoring other children of veterans.
Each year, more children are entering Legacy’s care just as Will and Ella once did.
It is only because of donors like you that these families find stability, friendship, and confidence, even after unimaginable loss.
